Designing the Future of Payments

I built and maintained the design system, iconography and illustration library for EBizCharge Cloud, a B2B payments platform with 400,000+ users and 100+ integrations. The work gave the product, the website and every partner integration one visual language.

Overview

EBizCharge embeds payment processing directly inside the software businesses already run on: accounting, ERP, CRM and e-commerce systems such as QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce and Sage Intacct. Merchants accept cards and ACH, send invoices and get paid without leaving their system.

In 2020, EBizCharge launched EBizCharge Cloud , its own platform, alongside a refreshed brand. I joined as a junior designer and grew into a core contributor on both the product and the brand.

Challange

One company, 100+ places it shows up, and none of them looked the same.

  • The visual language was fragmented across the cloud product, the marketing website and third-party integrations
  • Payment workflows (invoicing, ACH, recurring billing, syncing with accounting systems) are complex and full of jargon
  • The audience ranged from CEOs to accountants, with very different levels of technical comfort
  • Legacy tools like the Customer Payment Portal were outdated, even though merchants relied on them daily
  • Product teams kept rebuilding the same UI with no shared components

My Role

UX/UI designer who grew from junior to core contributor, owning the systems layer across product and brand.

  • Built and maintained the design system for EBizCharge Cloud
  • Designed the full iconography system, handcrafted to brand rules
  • Created the illustration library for the platform, marketing site and partner integrations
  • Designed UI flows for the cloud platform, including the Customer Payment Portal redesign
  • Launched 20+ features across integrations with QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce and Sage Intacct

Solution

1. From scattered visuals to one design system.

I built a component-based design system for EBizCharge Cloud, with reusable patterns and components that product teams could pull from instead of rebuilding.

2. From generic icons to a rule-based icon family.

I derived the icon system from the new logo's geometry: rounded, consistent and built on strict brand rules. I also redesigned the category icons so each one is recognizable at a glance, which made the platform easier to navigate. The icons were designed around three principles: consistency (it builds trust), readability (it speeds up interaction) and scalability (it lets the product grow).

3. From abstract fintech to a visual story.

I created one illustration family, from detailed hero images down to small in-product spot illustrations, to explain complex payment concepts simply. The tone is practical, optimistic and friendly, carried through shape, color, softness and curves.

4. From an outdated portal to a modern, brandable one.

I redesigned the Customer Payment Portal, where merchants theme their own brand and sync invoices with their accounting systems. It got new patterns, components, icons and illustrations.

Outcome

For the business: one brand presence across the product, the website and 100+ partner systems, which supported the EBizCharge Cloud launch

  • For users: complex payment concepts made easier to understand through clear icons and illustrations, for everyone from CEOs to accountants
  • For teams: reusable components and documented rules meant faster development and fewer inconsistencies, and marketing could self-serve icons
  • For me: this is where I learned systems thinking. I went from making assets to making the rules that produce them.
