Designing a Client-Facing Portal for the Future of Real Estate
Overview
Bowery Valuation is a tech-enabled commercial appraisal firm redefining how institutional real estate is valued and accessed. I joined the product team within the expansion pod, helping Bowery enter new markets and deliver new tools for both internal appraisers and external clients.
I worked on everything from internal product features and integrations to launching the company’s first-ever client-facing portal — allowing financial institutions to explore appraised data and request valuation reports directly within the platform.
The Challange
Bowery’s in-house appraisers already used a powerful internal tool, but external clients still had to rely on multiple third-party platforms (e.g. Zillow, Costar) for research. Our goal:
Build a centralized portal where clients could access verified valuation data
Make complex financial information simple and searchable
Ensure accessibility across user types — including older, less tech-savvy investors
Maintain design consistency using Bowery’s MUI 5-based design system
My Role
Designed end-to-end UX flows for Bowery’s new client portal
Built early wireframes to clarify product direction and stakeholder alignment
Contributed to high-fidelity UI and interaction design across desktop views
Worked within the MUI 5 design system to ensure consistency and developer handoff
Partnered with PMs and engineers to ship beta functionality — including map/list views, filters, and report requests
Supported visual asset creation for internal tools and new market integrations
Results
Launched Bowery’s first external-facing product for institutional clients
Helped support national expansion into new markets
Strengthened cross-functional collaboration between appraisers, product, and engineering
Delivered a scalable front-end framework for future client features

The Design System
At Bowery, for our whole product suite of tools, we used MUI 5.0 to help create our products. For this project, we wanted to make sure our design system is consistent so that our designers and engineers can have a source of truth. You can check out MUI 5 documentation here
